Beach resort town of Sitges
Sitges is a beach resort town, set in an enviable location on the Mediterranean coast, just an hour away from Barcelona. Sitges boasts of seventeen beaches making it easy to find the beach you are after, whether it is gay-friendly, naturalist or family friendly. Though Sitges is now more of a beach town for cosmopolitan and ritzy crowd, it was once small fishing village. The old town has preserved some of Sitges humble past.
Go-to destination for artists
Sitges is one of the preferred hang-out for European artists. In the past, established artists like Picasso and Santiago Rusiñol have frequented Sitges or have made it their home. Today, Sitges attracts numerous struggling artists and craftsmen. Every year, Sitges hosts Art Fair on March 25th and 26 th. The fair is used by residents artists and craftsmen to display and sell their work.
Fiesta Major
On 24th of August, Sitges hosts the Fiesta Major, in honour of patron saint Sant Bartomeu. An extremely popular fair attracting numerous tourists, the fair is known for parade of giant puppets and extravagant firework display.
Nightlife
Sitges’ nightlife is internationally known and famed thanks to its Sin Street (“Calle del Pecado” ). Sitges nightlife is not all about Sin Street. There are milder options to chill out and have fun . You can enjoy a drink at outdoor terraces or go to one of many night clubs. Sitges is also popular for its open-air concerts and impromptu parties.
