Thanks to its picturesque beaches, Nerja , the resort town at about 40 minutes from Malaga is often called the jewel of Costa del Sol. Nerja has some of the best beaches of Costa del Sol. Apart from its beaches, Nerja is famous for its pre historic Nerja caves and the balcony of Europe (Balcón de Europa). Nerja is also famous for its hikes. Walking along the central historical area of Nerja is an urban trail along interesting architectural building while the Rio Chillar hike is along the scenic river. For most part of the year, Nerja is not too crowded. However, of late, Nerja sees influx of many tourists in the summer months of July to September. The infrastructure of Nerja is often seen to be outdated and there was an issue of untreated sewage water being let out at the sea.

Nerja is the preferred Costa del Sol town for couples, those traveling as a family and for those keen on a diving holiday.

With Nerja as a base, you can visit other attractions as a day trip. It can be rock of Gibraltar or the Alhambra.
