Best hotels overlooking Venice's Grand Canal
Hotel L'Orologio VeniceYou will not find luxurious Venetian furnishings in this hotel, but you will find interiors that are wonderfully minimal and retro. The theme of the hotel is 'clock' or 'watch' (hence the name of the hotel), but this is emphasized in a tasteful way. The hotel is located by the Rialto market, so you will struggle to find a better location for a waterfront hotel. The rooms are individually decorated but they all stick to the same basic colour schemes of the retro design. Not all of the rooms have a view of the Grand Canal, so you would have to request them, but the décor and quality of each room is fairly standard throughout each room. There is a ground floor restaurant and bar in the hotel which will provide views of the canal while you are eating breakfast, including a view of the famous Ca D'Oro museum.
Riva de L'Ogio, 1777, 30125 Sestriere San Polo, Venice
Hotel Palazzo SternThis stunning canal-side hotel has five star flair without the price tag. This hotel is located in the slightly quieter district of Dorsoduro, and is about a 15 minute walk from Saint Mark's Square. In this district you will find famous attractions such as the Peggy Guggenheim collection and the Accademia, as well as getting away from the crowds of San Marco. If you are not planning on walking, the hotel has its own private jetty, and is very accessible from all the main transport hubs in Venice. The interior of this hotel is old fashioned in the most beautiful way, and is considered to be decorated in a Belle Époque style. The building used to be the home of an art collector, and this is reflected in the many works from all eras throughout the hotel. If you want views of the canal from your room you will be wanting to stay in the superior suites, but everyone has access to the waterside terrace and the Jacuzzi on the roof with views of the mountains in the distance.

The building itself is divided into two distinct parts: one Art Deco, one faux-Gothic. The overall feeling is old fashioned Venetian elegance, with chandeliers, carved ceilings and gilded mirrors. The rooms themselves are clean, comfortable, and some have beautiful balconies that look out over the canal.

The building itself is located along the Grand Canal, and is located in an elegant 15th century palace. The décor reflects a classic Venetian elegance, but all the rooms still have modern amenities that will not distract from the style. As well as rooms overlooking the canal, there are also several rooms that are not attached to the main building and serve more as private apartments.
