Flamenco shows in Sacromonte caves
Since time immemorial, Roma gypsies, creators of the Flamenco dance form, have inhabited the caves of Sacromonte neighbourhood of Granada. They first arrived at Sacromonte as a marginalized community, who also found it too expensive to live in the city proper.
Today, Camino del Sacromonte, the 'high street' of Sacromonte has many restaurants staging Zambra performances every night. Zambra is a flamenco variation practiced by gypsies of Granada.
Best Flamenco shows in Sacromonte Caves
Cuevas los TarantosThis is one of the most recommended Sacromonte Caves flamenco shows. They stage three simultaneous flamenco performances across three different cave rooms.

Venta El GalloShows are held in smaller and more intimate flamenco cave rooms. It can be argued that shows at Venta El Gallo are less touristy than those staged at other restaurants on Camino del Sacromonte.

Zambra Maria la CanasteraThis is a performance theater and museum, run by the son of one of Granada’s most famous flamenco dancer, Zambra Maria la Canastera. The flamenco show is held with only 30 people at one time making the experience intimate and enjoyable. Since only about 30 people can be packed in, be sure to try and book in advance especially during the peak summer months.

At Sacromonte, every evening hordes of tourists descend to these caves for a 'dinner cum flamenco experience'.
The walls of the caves sport a typical roma decor - copper bowls, local ceramics and pictures of flamenco artists from past generations or famous flamenco dancers who have performed in these caves.
There have been accusations that flamenco shows hosted at these flamenco caves are touristy. The accusation may be true, but these flamenco shows are closer to authentic ones than those hosted in other parts of Spain. In any case, the popularity of these shows is undisputed.
Flamenco Festivals in Sacromonte Caves
In July - Visit Sacromonte during the Festival de las Cuevas for some great Flamenco. This festival takes place at the Museo de Interpretacion de Sacromonte, at Camino de Sacromonte.
Every Saturday from November to May - Patrimonio Flamenco takes place at Teatro La Chumbera, in Camino de Sacromonte. Unlike other venues in Sacromonte, there is no food and drink included nor sold during the performance.
For my money, the best flamenco show is not in the caves of Sacromonte but at Jardines de Zoraya. This flamenco restaurant is in the historic Albaicin district, next to Plaza San Nicolas. Passionate performance and excellent food. Definitely less touristy than the ones staged in Sacromonte Caves.
