The famous Italian fishing villages known as Cinque Terre are so beautiful that can melt even the coldest heart with their charm. Popular for their beauty, but also for their incredible hiking trails, the villages are always filled with travelers from all over the world.
Florence to Cinque Terre day trip is not ideal
From a local point of view, visiting Cinque Terre takes about three days and it seems impossible to go on a day trip to this place from Florence. But it can be done.
Cinque Terre is a rushed day trip by public transport
First of all, there are no direct trains from Florence to any of the five Cinque Terre towns, so reaching this place by train is quite difficult. There are 12 Trenitalia trains departing from Firenze Santa Maria Novella station and going towards Cinque Terre each day, but all of them require at least one change en route.
Driving is the best option
However, if you really want to go on a day trip to Cinque Terre, your best option is to rent a car. You will only drive two hours until you reach the first village. Traveling by car gives you the chance to visit Lucca and Pisa as well.
Or consider a Cinque Terre tour from Florence
Another way is finding a tour. A popular one is offered by Alessandri Cammilii (Car rental and driver +39 339 644 1133). The tour starts at 8 AM and ends at 6 PM.
You will be driven to the town of Manarola, from there you will take the train to Vernazza, known as the most beautiful village of Cinque Terre. All the ground and first floors of this town were destroyed by the 2011 flood and later restored. In Vernazza, you can have a delicious lunch at a lovely restaurant by the sea.
After lunch, you can enjoy an unforgettable walk from Vernazza to Monterosso al Mare (about 1 hour). Monterosso is the largest town in Cinque Terre, with a great selection of rocky and sandy beaches. To be honest, the scenic walk is really the highlight of Cinque Terre day trip.
